3D Modelling
Above: A 3D render of a candlestick in modo. This subject was chosen to display a number of different aspects to 3D modeling. It uses:
Sub-surface scattering. This is displayed in the tip of the whick and happens when a substance is slightly translucent but unlike transparency, sub-surface scattering takes into account the density of the matter i.e. as the wax gets thinner, more light can move through it.
Bump-mapping. Shown in the dish holding the candle. The metal texture appears as though it has bumps and grooves you can touch even though it is a continuous flat surface.
Textures and sub-divided geometry.Textures were used together with bump-mapping to provide releief and geometry is sub-divided to create smooth curves.
3D Animation
Above: A 3D animation of my first semester South Africa project. The model took 3 days to build and animate and 10 hours to render.
